Q&A with Richard Schindell

What was the first concert you attended?
1975... Andres Segovia (Avery Fisher Hall)
1976... Yes (Nassau Coliseum)
1977... Little Feat (Baltimore Civic Center)

Where and when was the first show you played?
Not sure this qualifies as a show, but my first gig was a Christmas party at a real estate agency. A friend and I were hired to dress up as elves and walk around the room singing holiday songs. We must have been around 17 years old. We got very stoned for the occassion. We sang nothing but Graham Parsons songs all evening.

Which of your songs is your favorite and why?
There Goes Mavis, because it came so close to never existing at all, and it's really fun to play.

If you could open for any artist in the next year, who would it be?
Leonard Cohen

What 3 artists have you listened to obsessively in the last month?
James Brown (Star Time Boxed Set)
Pablo Casals (Bach: Suites for Cello)
XTC (Nonsuch)

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A park ranger.

What is your favorite phrase?
Hope springs eternal.

Cat person, dog person, or both?
Dogs, of course.

Books or movies?
Why do I have to choose?!
