What was the first concert you attended? Michael Jackson, the Dangerous Tour at London’s Wembley Stadium July 29th 1991! I will never forget that experience
Where and when was the first show you played? I think it was a Johnny Cash tribute night at the George Tavern in Whitechapel, London a few weeks after he died... sadly no evidence remains of this night but we packed it out and I sang Red River Valley and I'm Going To Jackson...
What is your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experience? To be in my band you have to love swimming wild in rivers, and we are really good on long hot car journeys for pulling off roadsides and diving into the nearest brook. Always naked and always the most restorative experience.... Likewise no photos of these experiences would legally be allowed to be hosted here I’m afraid
Which of your songs is your favorite and why? Ouch, that’s like choosing children.... Well I do love singing the Tanyard Side as it holds such a special place in my heart, but when we do Airdog live my heart always soars in that one and I’m transported so far away by it. I never want it to end
If you could open for any artist in the next year, who would it be? Can i subvert this question and answer by saying I’d love to have a support slot before the opera at say the Royal Opera House in London or the Met in New York. I’d love to do a guerrilla set singing the librettos of the underdogs of society, the common people.
What 3 artists have you listened to obsessively in the last month? A new UK Band called Eleven Magpies, Mara Carlyle and Piers Faccini and Vincent Segal's duo would be my ear worms of late.
What did you want to be when you were growing up? A Volcanologist and Tornado Scientist, oh how I loved tornados as a kid... still obsessed actually. Please don't psychoanalyse that one... I'm comfortable with it and with the not understanding anymore about why it is.
What is your favorite phrase? By the time they find out you know nothing about it, you generally know something about it
What would most people be surprised to learn about you? I’m an expert in wilderness survival and I have a nose like a dog. I know friends have come into a room even if I haven't seen them by their smell. People can’t hide anything from me as I can sniff most things out
