On Saturday cast members of the upcoming musical Marley, written and directed by Kwame Kwei Armah, gathered at the center of the Freddie Gray protests to perform some of Bob Marley's greatest hits. Center Stage released the following statement in reference to the performance:
"Although the cast and crew's focus is working on this production, it cannot be denied that Bob Marley's message of redemption, love and revolution resonates very deeply right now, and the cast wants to share his songs with the community. Center Stage's Community Programs and Education Department is organizing the concert as a way to offer healing to our community."
In addition to the sing-alongs, they offered free water and snacks to the audience-- a stark contrast to the gatherings that took place at Penn & North less than a week before.
Marley premieres May 8th at The Pearlstone Theatre in Baltimore.
