Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With Parthenon Huxley (The Orchestra)

ELO fan? The Orchestra member, Parthenon Huxley, Performs Acoustic Electric Light Orchestra Hits here Thursday!

Where and when was your first show?

Geez. 1846? That's what it feels like. I remember playing a pool party when I was about 12. I was living in Athens, Greece at the time and there was a place called the American Club that catered to the ex-pat community. I'm sure we did "Land of 1000 Dances", "Satisfaction", "Proud Mary"…stuff like that. We must have been horrendous.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

Other than The Beatles? I'd say The Beatles. There's a long list in second place, of course: Kinks, Bowie, The Move, Velvet Underground, Lovin' Spoonful, Cream, Hendrix, Stooges, Big Star, James Gang, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, ELO, Raspberries, Stones, Jethro Tull, Doors, Buffalo Springfield, Animals, Bruce Springsteen, Stories, NRBQ, Humble Pie, Free, The Who, MC5, Mountain, Socrates Drank The Conium, Buckingham Nicks, Spirit, Ten Years After…and 500 more I'm forgetting.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

Well, how about performing on Russian Idol? It's called Star Factory over there. I was with my band The Orchestra (Former Members of ELO) and we did a song called Ticket To The Moon, which no one knows over here, but in Russia it's like Hey Jude. Huge! One of the contestants, Alexi, sang lead, and did alright. In Russia they combine the Idol format with a kind of Big Brother living situation. So all of the contestants not only compete, but they live in the basement of the TV studio in a fake dormitory environment. Poor kids! I had my makeup for the telecast done by Gorbachev's granddaughter.

Favorite Food: Breakfast.

Favorite Drink: Half-Caf soy latte. Extra hot, light foam, please.

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself? I think my 12-year-old daughter should play me. She's got the look, unfortunately for her!

What two words would best describe your music? Quite catchy.
