SUPER bob have been local favorites for a while. They tour around the country but are originally from Northern Virginia. Their shows are very high-energy, fun and visual - big beats, big guitars, breakdowns, and lots of tattoos and dreadlocks flying around. Mei caught up with lead singer Matt Santoro for a fun Q&A before their show here Sunday night!
Where and when was SUPER bob’s first show?
Our first show ever was when we were called "bob". We knew we needed to practice, so we played an open mic and we didn't tell anyone. It was at Jimmy's Old Town Tavern in Herndon VA. Adam and I brought it as hard as we could. Hahaha It was our first time ever on stage and my hands were visibly shaking. I was scared to death and didn't really know how to sing. So I jumped around as much as I could.
The first show as what is now super bob, meaning Matt, Adam, Drew, and Chris, was in Myrtle Beach SC. We had practiced together for maybe three weeks, this was Chris's first show with us, and Drew's first show on the front of the stage playing bass. We tried to warn Drew that he would be winded, he didn't believe us and he nearly passed out hahaha.
What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?
Well I can't speak for the guys, but my main influence would actually be Adam. He's the one that convinced me to start playing music, and the one who convinced me to sing. I didn't listen to much music before I started to play, and I still don't.
What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?
I could tell endless stories, so many things happen that the awesome things become regular and hard to remember. My normal life is a permanent vacation filled with awesome people and places. But I will say I will always remember the first time we went to Texas. Texas is one of the few places that lives up to what people say about it. It's big, it's open, and it's pretty. I know that's not as exciting of an answer as most people would like haha.
Favorite Food: Anything with a good tomato sauce on it. It's impossible to find a good red sauce in the south, so that's what I've miss since we moved.
If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself? Brad Pitt. Duh.
What two words would best describe your music? Heavy pop.
