Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaDoorGal's Q&A With Medlow

Medlow is a new young band from the area. We're pretty excited about what they're doing! Their album release show is here this Wednesday!

Where and when was your first show?

At a battle of the bands. A friend kept bugging us to join the battle, and we gave in just expecting it to be a fun time. It was a mess. I was in the bathroom trying to stop a nosebleed while the rest of the band set up. I finally walked out on stage feeling like ****, and we crashed through our set. When we went on to win I don’t think we’d ever been that excited.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

Growing up, there was never any repression of musical tastes so I listened to almost everything. I’ve always loved the analog synthesizer sounds of the 70’s and 80’s the best. Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, David Bowie, and Vector all had a big impact on me when I was learning how those synthesizers ticked.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

Opening for Plain White T’s at a festival after we won the local Battle of the Bands. We couldn’t play any cover songs. I only had three original songs at the time. So we rehearsed like crazy, and I wrote two more songs that week. It was definitely one of the more fun shows we’ve played. Definitely looking forward to the next big memory.

Favorite Food: Crab quiche. Homemade. I go back home just to steal me a slice of that.

Favorite Drink: The habanero-infused margarita from Mesa Coyoacan in Brooklyn. Which is far, far away from where I’m sitting right now.

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?

Definitely Harrison Ford… to play the entire band… just because.
