Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With A Silent Film

There's a lot of buzz about A Silent Film. We're really excited for their show here Thursday. Mei caught up with Spencer (the drummer) for this fun Q&A! Giveaway: All advance tickets will be entered into a lottery to win a winner gets a signed limited edition tour poster and a signed vinyl single from A Silent Film!

Where and when was your first show?

I actually really cannot remember our first show! We formed from the ashes of a previous band and spent a long time 'honing' our sound in a studio we built at the bottom of the garden. My main memories are of this studio really, but I do remember at one very early show we played a song called "Seasons". It was fairly prog, was very self-involved, and was around 10 minutes long. Lost a lot of early fans that night.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

Bob Dylan, Bjork, Elvis, Neil Young, Queen, David Bowie, Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, Arcade Fire, Bruce Springsteen - these are some of the artists/bands we often reference as inspirations. Whether or not they influence our music is probably more a question for the listener!

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

Strangely its often the day-to-day stuff that becomes most memorable. One of my enduring memories of the touring experience in the US will be the amount of times you step out of the van guitar in hand, leather jacket, shades on, looking like the ultimate band cliché, and a guy walking past looks you up and down and says "Hey, y'all in a band?!". Yes. Yes we are in a band. Obviously.
