Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With Ane Brun

Ane Brun's voice is simply amazing. You may have heard it on the Chevrolet commercial during the Super Bowl last weekend (see the video below). She has a new recording out featuring rarities and some choice covers of Beyonce, The Beatles, and more. She's here Tuesday February 11 with Special Guest cellist Linnea Olsson! Get tickets here.

Where and when was your first show?

My First show for an audience was when I was busking in the streets of Barcelona back in 1998. I was so nervous before stepping into the street the first night that I had to get a drink or two before starting. And in the end air just went home without even trying that first day. But the next day I stepped up and I did it! Since then I've never been afraid of stepping onto a stage,

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

It's not possible to mention just one artist, since my music is an influence you so many. If I only had one inspiration I'm afraid that could make me less unique. My influences are everything from the most obvious Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake, to Stravinsky and Satie, to Arcade Fire, Antony and the Johnson's, Ella Fitzgerald, Gillian Welch and Dolly Parton.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

I think playing at the Red Rocks theatre in Colorado with Peter Gabriel in a thunder storm and a symphonic orchestra must have been the most intense stage experience I've had. Other than that going to an island in the North of Norway, five hours by boat from the coast, and playing at the beautiful and wild Træna Festival,

Favorite Food: shellfish and mayo on a salad or sandwich has always been my favorite since I was little

Favorite Drink: Natural  cold-pressed Apple juice with a bit of sparkling water, Ice and lime

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?

Cate Blanchett, because she's such an actress, there no resemblance to me, so they'd had to work on the makeup a bit. I don't know if she can sing?

What two words would best describe your music?

Alternative melancholy
