Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With Austin Lucas

Austin Lucas is here Wednesday night. Check out Mei's Q&A with him him below and get tickets here.

Where and when was your first show?

It's actually impossible for me to answer that. I neither remember the first concert that I played, nor do I remember the first one that I went to.  Having a musician father really made it so that music was literally a thing that just was there all the time.   I mean in every moment and in every memory.  I can tell you the first concert that I went to which was a national headliner.  That was X and Warren Zevon at the IU Auditorium.  Such a cool show and lineup.  I think that the next show that I went to was Don Henley though.  Cool points from previous gig, completely lost.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

I think that my two main influences are probably X, specifically John Doe. Then my father as well. He's been incredibly instrumental in my musical development. He's incredible.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

Touring with Willie Nelson was incredibly memorable. In fact, it very nearly eclipses all other touring experiences.  The most off the wall thing that happened on that tour was smoking Willie's weed (I had stopped smoking almost two decades ago) with his son, Lukas, and talking about alien conspiracy theories.  That was wild.

Favorite Food: Mexican

Favorite Drink: Water and bourbon... sometimes even together.

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?

I think that Meatloaf would've been perfect if he were younger.  Now I'm not so sure.  Somebody who's chubby and can sing like a bird.  They don't let many fat people be famous so there aren't too many good options.

What two words would best describe your music? Rock, Roll!
