Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With Black Prairie

45-atxl

Black Prairie is an indie Americana supergroup from Portland, Oregon. It was founded by some members of The Decemberists. Check out Mei's Q&A with the band below. They're here 9/10!

Where and when was your first show?

Our first Black Prairie show was in our violin player Annalisa's living room. We invited friends and her violin students to come. We were nervous and it was crowded and hot but we had a great time. We were exited that our band could play acoustic in intimate spaces. The audience was quiet and listening to every note. We have since evolved to be more of a folk rock band but we still play like we are playing in that small room. We invite people to go on a journey with us and experience the wide dynamic range and complexity in our music.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

We love John Hartford, John Fahey, and Led Zeppelin!

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

We have created a new sport that involves scarves and pillows. We hope to showcase it at the Oregon Country Fair next year!

Favorite Food: Mac and Cheese

Favorite Drink: Vodka Tonic

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?

I would like to played by Weird Al Yankovich. He has made the accordion cool for 30 years!

What two words would best describe your music?

Metal Americana
