Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With Griffin House

griffin-blog

Griffin House is one of our favorite singer/songwriters to come through the club. He's here Monday 11/11. Tickets are available here. Mei caught up with Griffin for this fun Q&A. Enjoy!

Where and when was your first show?

My first show was at Pachinko bar in Oxford Ohio with the college band I was in.  It was our first show and it was packed.  People were going nuts and we had so much fun.  I was forever hooked that night.  That's if you don't count the time I got up in front of the class in the 2nd grade and asked the teacher if I could sing Johnny Be Good and Huey Lewis randomly after a math test.  I did the splits, and played some serious air guitar.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

My influences have changed over the years.  But I would say, Bono, Jeff Buckley, Bruce Springsteen, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

Probably the first time I opened up for John Mellencamp for 5,000 people and went out under the spot light and said "hi I'm Griffin House, I'm kinda nervous tonight and I was wondering if I went back behind the curtain and came back out - if for 45 minutes- you could just pretend you came here to see me, so I'm gonna go back there and do a few push-ups and when I walk back out, just go ape shit….  & they did!  It never even occurred to me that I could have heard crickets. I just thought 'this is gonna' work.'  I ended up doing a victory lap around the whole arena at the end of my set and high fiving everyone in the audience, and Mellencamps lighting guys even followed me around with the spot light.  They couldn't believe it and I can't believe I did that. But I'm glad I did.  It's a good memory.

Favorite Food:

These days I eat lots of Kale.  If they tell me in a few years that green smoothies are bad for you, I'm gonna be in big trouble :)

Favorite Drink:

tonic water with a lime

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?

Hmm, who would make a good Griffin House.  I think maybe I should play myself...?

What two words would best describe your music?

"sincere honest" is the polite answer

"really awesome" is the answer that says, "there is no real way for me to answer that question without me sounding like a wanker"
