Jill Barber is a fantastic Canadian singer-songwriter whose new album, Fool's Gold, just came out last month. This new album is influenced by classic Motown, classic country ballads, and romantic pop of a bygone era. Check out the video below for a taste. Jill is here this Sunday!

Where and when was your first show?
When I was growing up in the suburbs of Toronto my friends and I would put on basement shows on weekends. Those were my first gigs when I was 15 or 16. My first professional gig came when a new coffee shop opened in my neighborhood. I walked in with my guitar one day and asked for an audition on the spot. They hired me to play Friday nights for a year and paid me $20 for a 3 or 4 hour set. I thought I'd made it.
What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?
Whenever I feel stuck for inspiration I listen to Nat King Cole. There's something so dreamy and nostalgic about his voice, I could just float away listening to him.
What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?
Last month I sat next to Canadian rock and roll legend Bryan Adams on a plane ride from Toronto to Québec City. He played me some new song demos, and shared some adorable photos and videos of his two daughters. He even loaned me his earbuds because I didn't have my headphones with me. Then he picked up my iphone and started taking portraits of me and my infant son who was sleeping in my arms. It was a memorable flight to be sure. That night I watched him play to 40,000 people.
Favorite Food: Any kind of seafood, raw or cooked.
Favorite Drink: A nice pinot noir
If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?
Kate Winslet. I'd also request a nude scene. She's a great actress and looks great naked.
Cat-Person, Dog-Person, or both? I like to scratch dogs ears and rub cat's chins, but I'm not a pet owner myself. I travel too much.
What two words would best describe your music? Sultry, classic
I'm attaching a Bryan Adams pic too, in lieu of a pet picture.
