It's been a while since LA's Meiko has been at JJ. She's a fantastic indie/pop singer singer/songwriter and we're thrilled to have her back August 11! Check out Meiko's PledgeMusic campaign here.

Giveaway: Purchase three or more advance tickets and you'll be entered for a chance to win a lyric sheet and a special merch package from Meiko!

Where and when was your first show? My first official show was at a small coffee shop in Hollywood, CA called Highland Grounds - I’m pretty sure it was around 2004. The girl behind the counter kept turning on the blender while I was singing, and I swore she was doing it to drive me crazy. It was a good experience though - I guess the blender was just a test to get me used to future hecklers that I might come across from time to time!

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence? I love Sade. I think she has the most beautiful voice ever. I like the way her songs connect with people and the way she’s managed her career. She can disappear for a while and then decide to put out an amazing record whenever she feels like it.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences? I was on the Hotel Cafe Tour with Rachel Yamagata and Ingrid Michaelson, and after one of the shows, a drunk girl, leaving the show, ran into our bus. The cops came and arrested her. No one was hurt but we were all really freaked out.

Favorite Food: Sushi

Favorite Drink: An ice cold Bud Light on a hot day.

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself? Jennifer Lawrence, definitely. We look nothing alike, but I love her so much - and think we share the same love for food.

Cat-Person, Dog-Person, or both? I’m a kitty, puppy person. When they're full grown, I’m not that into them. That’s why I'm not a pet owner - haha!

What two words would best describe your music? Indie. Rockish.
