Jammin Java is also home to Tot Rock, one of the country's best kids music series in a club. We have local kids acts Thursday and Friday morning and usually have touring acts on the weekends. Mister G is a popular kids performer and is performing here this Saturday! All advance tickets will be entered into a lottery. Five winners will be selected to win a signed copy of Mister G's new, bilingual CD, ABC Fiesta! Mei caught up with Mister G for this fun Q&A!
Where and when was your first show?
My first show was at summer camp when I was ten years old. I'd written a couple of original songs, and I performed them at the talent show. The kids (and counselors) went crazy and I went back to sleep that night feeling like a rockstar. I've been writing and performing ever since. (Check out the photo from that summer below)
What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence? That's tough! If I had to pick one, I'd say Bob Marley because no matter how many times I’ve heard his songs they always sound fresh and exciting to me. Also, his live shows were legendary and his music continues to bring different groups of people together all around the world... and that’s what I aspire to do too.
What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences? That would have to be the first show of my tour in Latin America last year. I'd never performed in Mexico City before and the concert was on a big stage in Parque Chapultepec, which is kind of like the National Mall in Washington. I presented awards to kids from all over the country and then played to a crowd full of government education officials and the national press.
Favorite Food: Pizza
Favorite Drink: Fresh squeezed orange juice
If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself? Al Pacino would have to shave his head, but I think he could pull it off!
What two words would best describe your music? Funky and Rocking
