Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With Steve Forbert

Steve Forbert embodies the quintessential American folk/rock troubadour. He's been producing vital music since the late 70's and had a hit with "Romeo's Tune". Steve is here Friday!

Where and when was your first show?

Playing Saturday morning dances in a rock 'n' roll band for patients at The East Mississippi State Hospital for the Mentally Ill.

The patients did not dance, just walked around in pairs in a big circle holding hands while staring at us.

We were paid in vanilla ice cream.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

certainly Bob [Dylan?]

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

Opening solo for The Beach Boys at  Omaha Nebraska State Fair and  having to stretch the sold out arena show till they arrived from an afternoon show in Lincoln Nebraska.

I met Carl's mother, Audree Wilson, that night  (the Rose Kennedy of rock).

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?

I'm a big fan of Leoanardo DeCaprio. His work in "Inception" was wonderful.  But I might pick   one or both of Ricky Nelson's sons.

What two words would best describe your music? Americana/folk-rock
