Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With Trace Bundy

trace-blog

Trace Bundy's shows are among the most popular guitar shows we have at JJ - and we have a lot of world-class guitarists perform here! His playing is inventive, dynamic, and percussive  and his stage presence and banter makes for an unforgettable concert experience. Check out the videos below for a taste. There are just a few tickets left for his show Wednesday May 14 so get them here!

Where and when was your first show?

I started out playing little shows in high school with my friends at my local coffee shop in Buena Vista, CO.  Probably 1994.  I remember making $50 in tips one night, thinking “this is crazy good money!”. I recorded a rough CD and starting manufacturing them - burning copies on my computer, pressing stickers on the discs, inserting black & white covers made at Kinko’s, etc.  I sold over 800 of those bad boys before realizing I could’ve had a company make them in full color, for cheaper than my laborious hand-made copies.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

Probably singer-songwriter David Wilcox.  Even though I don’t sing, his creative guitar playing, alternate tunings, and in-between-the-song banter really influenced my writing and live shows.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

On my first tour to South Korea, my wife and I were treated like royalty - limo service, 5-star Ritz Carlton hotel stays, gourmet meals, etc. When we arrived at the venue, there was a banner hanging off the side of a building, 3-stories tall, with a giant photo of me holding my guitar.  Pretty surreal.

Favorite Food:  Probably Vietnamese Vermicelli Noodle Bowl (Bun Dac Biet). I never seem to get tired of Vietnamese food.

Favorite Drink:  An Old Fashioned, with a little extra bitters.

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?

Bruce Lee, circa 1972

Cat-Person, Dog-Person, or both?!

Neither - never owned either one.  Growing up, our pet was a pigmy goat named Buddy. (photo attached)  My current “pet” is a cactus, which I think is dying due to lack of water.
