Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With Trevor Hall

Where and when was your first show? My first show was in my home town of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. I was about to go off to art school in California, so it was kind of like a going away party. My dad was a part owner of a venue called Wingo Hall. It was about 5 minutes from our house. I remember when we pulled into the parking lot, seeing a line of all my friends and their parents trying to get in ... It freaked me out!! I was so nervous that I played every song super fast and finished the whole concert in about 30 minutes.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

I remember working at a surf shop in Hilton Head. There was a stereo system there with a few CDs. One day I went through them and found Ben Harper's "The Will to Live". That album started everything.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

One that comes to mind is quite recent. We just for off the road from the Soulshine Tour that was put together by Michael Franti. He also recently started this foundation called "Do It For The Love" which provides an intimate concert experience for people with life threatening illnesses, children with severe challenges, and wounded veterans. We were recently in Sun Valley Idaho and there was this boy named Anthony who had Down syndrome I think. I'm guessing he was probably 11 or 12 years old. He told Michael that he played the drums. So during Michael's set, he called Anthony up to play the drums and the crowd went crazy. Anthony was playing the cymbals and his dad was balling his eyes out while at the same time smiling from ear to ear. It was just a really powerful moment that I'll probably remember forever.

Favorite Food: Beans and Rice

Favorite Drink: Mint Lemonade

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?

Somebody super mysterious and cool of course ... Like Johnny Depp

Cat-Person, Dog-Person, or both?

I used to never like cats until I met my wife's family's cat. Such an incredible personality. So now I'm cool with both.

What two words would best describe your music?

Spiritual and Good Vibes
