Artist Q&A

@JamminJavaMei's Q&A With Dan Navarro!

Dan Navarro

Dan Navarro is a singer/songwriter and formerly half of the duo, Lowen and Navarro. His musical partner, Eric Lowen, passed away away last year after a long struggle with Lou Gherig's disease. Together they wrote many songs recorded by other artists, most notably, "We Belong", recorded by Pat Benetar, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Even after Eric's diagnosis, they continued to perform, write, and record for another five years. Dan carries on the tuneful, thoughtful pop/rock the duo was known for. His solo shows are a great chance to witness a world-class singer and songwriter in action. Dan is here August 16.

Where was the first show you performed at?

Ever? The Troubadour in LA in 1974. Hoot Night (did four songs), sold out house, scared to death. As "Lowen & Navarro", No Amp Night at The Central on the Sunset Strip (now the Viper Room) in August 1987. Scared to death. As "Dan Navarro" in the modern age, in 2006, at the Town Crier n Pawling New York. Also scared to death. I sense a pattern here.

What artist/ band would you say you are most influenced by?

Probably mostly by Jackson Browne. His songs sounded like songs I wanted to write. Also Bob Dylan. Both of them taught me the importance of resonant lyrics.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

Switching drivers in a moving vehicle without stopping the car, 1990. Someone trying to scalp me tickets to my own sold out show, Park West, Chicago, January 28, 1994.

 Favorite food!  Indian, hands down. After that, Mexican

What two words would best describe your music? Self indulgent drivel. No, wait, that's three words… soulful, heartfelt.

All advance tickets will be entered into a lottery to win handwritten lyrics of a song from Dan Navarro!
