Where and when was your first show?

My first show was in 2007 (yikes!!) at a crazy rock venue called The Joint in Los Angeles.  It was Biker Night - lots of leather.  I showed up with my acoustic guitar, a full band and sang girlie songs about feelings.  It went over pretty well.

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?

I’m definitely influenced by Tom Waits.  I like his attitude towards music and the industry - he drums to beat of his own drum, he’s creative in the way that makes him happy and doesn’t give a shit about the money.  I love that about him.  Musically - I’m a huge Beatles fan.  I think they are the grandfathers of how songs are structured nowadays.  I love Imogen Heap - I think she’s the cats meow.  I also love Radiohead and The Civil Wars.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?

I was playing my first East Coast show in NY - I remember showing up to soundcheck, late - I walked in and sulked towards the back and had to wait till last because I was late - it was horrible.  All I remember is watching everyone soundcheck and thinking - holy crap.  Everyone’s SO GOOD.  What am I doing here?  Why am I here?  I remember leaving the gig really depressed and unsure about whether or not I should continue to do music.  But by the time I got home - I was determined to get better and to show up the next time - polished and prepped.  That NY show made me serious about music - and it made me figure out what kind of musician I wanted to be, what kind of voice I’d have.  I’ll never forget it.

Favorite Food: Pizza.

Favorite Drink:  Wine:).  Or Whiskey if it’s a serious night of fun!

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actors or band would you select to portray yourself?

George Clooney?  It’d be fun to see what he’d look like portraying a crazy Hawaiian/Asian chick with a sidecut.

Cat-Person, Dog-Person, or both?

Dog Person!!  Here’s a pic:

What two words would best describe your music? Different.  Thought provoking.
